My Dad Was the Life of Every Party

Carolyn's dad

My father told the best jokes in any room he walked into, and when the music started, he was always the best dancer there.

He was also my best buddy. He drove me to school every day, cooked dinner every night, and because I was the apple of his eye, he never once let me do a chore. Whenever I offered, he'd just say, "That's okay, baby, Daddy will do it."

He was a Mr. Mom long before anyone called it that. He loved to golf, he loved to cook, and our kitchen was always the warmest room in the house because he was in it.

I'd barely left my teens when I lost him, and it wasn't long after that I lost my mother too. I created Remembering My Dad for every son and daughter who misses the man who made them laugh, showed up every day and loved them out loud, so that none of us has to carry that loss alone.

The holidays still bring him back to me, in a good joke at the table or a song that pulls everybody onto the floor, and that's what we hope this community gives you too: a place to remember the man he was and to celebrate him with people who understand.
